Introduction Introduction Shadow play,also konwn as shadow pupperty(木偶;傀儡),is one of Chinese historic folk arts. Performed by three to five pupperteers,shadow paly is a form of storytelling that uses puppets against an illuminated(照明的)backdrop(幕布) to creat the illusion(幻觉)of movement. During the shadow play,pupeteers hide themselves behind a white curtain and move stick-mounted(用棒子装裱的) puppets,while also show the story through folk generally accompanied by musicians playing drms and stringed instruments. The Chinese Ministry of Culture has applied to UNESCO (科教文组织) for shadow play to be recognized as an intangible part of world cultural heritage(非物质文化遗产)，following UNESCOs decision to remove the limit on the number of applicationa for cultural heritage protection.
