T he heavy ra in is a d irect cau se to result in the m oun tain torrent calam ity. In this paper, accord ing to 226 cases data of the m ounta in torrent ca lam ity from 1954 to 2003, m ainly the data o f m eteo ro log ical and hydro log ic observatories from 19 80 to 1987, the distribution and m eso-scale characters of the m ounta in torrent calam ity in H ube i P rov ince are an- alyzed. Resu lt show s that the characters of m eso- scale rain clu ster and evo lution of the m eso-m icro scale system s decides the m ountain torrent ca lam ity in H ubei P rov ince.
