Box 833836, Abstract High quality alarm systems are essential to safe offshore petroleum production. The Norwegian Petroleum Directorate (NPD) has carried out safety assessments of alarm systems on seven of the petroleum production installations in Norway. The assessment clearly demonstrates that poor alarm system performance and management represents the greatest human factor challenge within control room environments offshore. Introduction Recently, the human factor is seen as increasingly important in targeting higher HSE performance in our industry.
