Language goals Key vocabulary: crime, real, criminal, differently, another, describe Target language: What does the criminal look like? He has short curly hair. The criminal is of medium height. 2. Ability goals To improve students’ abilities of fast-reading and the ability to get the gist of the passage. To help students understand how to find out what the pronounce refer to. 3. Emotional goals Learn the difficulties and the interests of being a police artist. To cultivate students’ awareness of job. Teaching important points: 1. New words and phrases. 2. How to talk about a person’s appearances. Teaching difficult points: Understand and know how to apply the reading skills (skimming, scanning, the pronounce ) to the reading passage. Teaching procedures: Step1 Lead in—introduce the topic Introducing the topic by setting a scene. Introduce wechat and friend circle to the class. Joe Brown was introduced to the class as a friend of mine. Step2 Learn the new words Task One: students are required to describe themselves by using one sentence, then introduce the word “different, differently and describe” Task Two: students are required to describe the image of the teacher in the Wechat and the real teacher. Then introduce the word “real”. Step3 Reading Task One: Read the first paragraph Students are required to find out what a police artist usually do in daily work. (2) Read the second paragraph Students are required to find the supportive evidence of the difficulties of being a police artist. Read the whole passage and work in groups to find out the meaning of the pronounces Step 4 Speaking and Writing Practice Activity: Write a Criminal wanted Students work in groups to help Joe Brown to finish writing the criminal wanted according to the given photo.
