Following a cultural course at the Goethe Institute, I began to foster an interest in German short stories and novellaswritten by the likes of Kafka and Kleist. Upon reading DieVerwandlung, I foundmyself drawn into the absurdist nature of the novella.Unlikewith other novellas, it seemed impossible to predictwhatwas going to happen nextwhich made it all the more enthralling to read.
