The diagram illustratehsow aluminium cans arerecycled.First,the cans need to be taken to specialcollectioncentresinsteadof being thrown away with thenormal refuse.Thecans arecollectedfrom here and taken to a factorywherethey are firstsortedand then cleaned.Next, the cans are shredded and crushed in a specialmachine.
The metal isthen heated to a high enough temperatureto allow the aluminium to melt.Itisthen rolledout flatto a thicknessof between 2.5mmand 6 mm,depending on what itisgoing to be used for.The aluminium isnow ready to be recycledintonew packaging, such as drink containers.Finally,the new cans aredeliveredto a softdrinksfactory
