Good evening and welcome to the Benjamin Franklin Room he re in theState Department. I am delighted that Secretary Geithner and I have the great privilege of onceagain hosting the third Strategic and Economic Dialogue here in Washing ton. A few weeks ago inthis very room, I had the privilege of sitting and talking with Dr. Henry Kissinger, my esteemedpredecessor and a good friend to many of us here. He spo ke of the early days of the U.S.-Chinadiplomatic relationship going back 40 years now. These have been decadesof unprecedented growth and progress for China. It has lifted hundreds of millio ns of people out ofpoverty and has helped to drive global prosperity. The United States has welcomed China’sgrowth and we have benefited from it. Today, our economies are entwined and so are ourfutures.
