/en/ Message from Top Management Nippon Steel Sumitomo Metal Corporation was established in 2012 by merger of Nippon Steel and Sumitomo Metal. With the aim of realizing the world top-class competitiveness, we have made steady progress in integrating technologies of the two former companies, reducing costs by raising efficiency, consolidating facilities and organizations, developing overseas businesses, and reorganizing Group companies. I am pleased to say that we have made solid achievements in the first stage of business integration, by reaching or even exceeding our numerical financial targets in the first Mid-Term Management Plan. We have been implementing the second Mid-Term Management Plan, for fiscal 2015–2017. This plan has two key imperatives: (1) Enhance manufacturing capabilities at our “mother mills” in Japan (2) Strengthen and expand overseas businesses, based on our strength in Japan. We are striving to advance our technology, cost competitiveness, and global reach to firmly establish our position as the best steelmaker with world-leading capabilities.
