Is Cohabitation Rational? Nowadays, there is a prevailing trend that men and women live togethe without getting ma ied. A majority of people insist that cohabitation is as emotionally i ational as it is logically against the laws, which will contribute to a bad influence on the society. However, cohabitation is actually not always an impulsive behavior. Noting people ’s various motives fo cohabitation, we should analyze thei reasons first to determine whether it is sensible. People chose cohabitation for a number of reasons. These may include wanting to test compatibility o to establish financial security before ma ying. Rathe than a behavio of fea of commitment, it is a manifestation of the cohabitants’caring fo each other to reduce the chance of divorce after ma iage. Another reason may be that they are unable to legally ma y, due to patterns such as same-sex, some inte acial o inte eligious ma iages are not permitted. They are not to blame because it is the bias in the laws that prohibits them from being ma ied and they live happily without harming anyone else’s interests. What I oppose is that many people cohabit because of some selfish reasons. A numbe of couples prefer cohabitation because this extended period is easier to establish and dissolve without the legal costs often associated with a divorce. Responsibilities between the couple are escaped, so are that for oneself. I do not see any possibility that their relationship will last long since who would like to live with a person who lacks confidence in the relationship at the beginning of cohabitation? These people are no at all serious with thei affections.
