* * To explain you all the activities group supply chain is involved in, let’s just begin by asking how does a customer get its product? Or with another question: How does it all start? With a customer order. A desire of the customer to buy. Our customer service team will look after this! Once the order is in our systems that will let manufacturing know what to produce and that order will pull the product through the network: store packing Store Port Ocean shipping international port etc. To make all this possible there are 3 teams working in conjunction, these are: Customer Service team (cust service as such, docs, market access, complaints, etc) – this team no only looks after customer orders but also for export docs. Fonterra has a in-house customs documentation centre. NZ Logistics team (warehousing, transport-road rail-, ports) Optimisation Team (ocean freight, vessel planning, inventory replenishment, etc) SBU – in countries where we have in market warehousing and distribution like USA, Europe, Mexico, then there a team managing this activities reporting back to Supply chain NZ. Obviously the size of each of these SBU teams will depend on the number of warehouses, customers, whether we have local production, etc. And the 3 blue stripes that you can see on the bottom of the slide, represent the other three teams that make Group Supply Chain. The focus of these 3 teams is to deliver what we call Capability for Growth. This is basically looking at areas where we can improve, supporting the BAU units with specific analysis. In the case of customer and network solutions, engaging our customers to work together, etc. * * Imagine the magnitude and complexity of our supply chain! – (basically read the figures out loud) * * Look at how different our supply chain is compared to 10 years ago.
