Qujiang, located in Xian, is a famous tourist attraction in China. With the increasing number of foreign tourists, it is essential to provide high-quality English interpretation of the scenic spots signs to ensure a better tourism experience. The study focuses on the purpose behind the English interpretation of the signs and explores whether it meets the needs of foreign tourists. Literature Review The previous studies have emphasized the importance of providing high-quality interpretation services for foreign tourists. Scholars have analyzed the quality of interpretation from various aspects, such as language use, cultural differences, and tourist needs. However, few studies have explored the purpose behind the interpretation. Purpose analysis is a theoretical framework that offers a deeper insight into the design of language use by analyzing the purpose behind it. By applying the framework to the interpretation of Qujiang scenic spots signs, this study aims to explore whether the interpretation meets the needs of foreign tourists. Methodology The study employs a qualitative research method. The data were collected from Qujiang scenic spot signs written in English. Both primary and secondary data were used in the study. The primary data were collected from the signs at Qujiang scenic spots. The secondary data were collected from relevant literature and related studies. The analysis was conducted in three stages: identifying the purpose of the interpretation, analyzing the language use, and evaluating the quality of the interpretation.
