TheWhitneyMuseumofAmericanArt，theWalkerArtCenterandtheMuseumofContemporaryArt，LosAngelesrecentlyaskedresearcherstoconductastudytofindouthoweffectivetheirlong-standingteenartprogramsreallyare.Theyinvolvedover300formerparticipantsoffourprogramsforteensthathavebeeninexistencesincethe1990s.Alumni，whosecurrentagesrangefrom18to36，wereinvitedtofindouthowtheyviewedtheirparticipationyearsafterthefact.

Amongthealumnisurveyed，75percentofthemthoughttheteenartprogramexperiencehadthemostfavorableimpactontheirownlives，beatingthefamily，schoolandtheirneighborhoods.Nearly55percentthoughtthatitwasoneofthemostimportantexperiencestheydeverhad，regardlessofage.Andtwo-thirdssaidthattheywereofteninsituationswheretheirexperienceinmuseumsaffectedtheiractionsorthoughts.

Itturnsoutthatparticipatinginartprogramsalsohelpskeepteensenthusiasticaboutcultureevenaftertheyreachadulthood：Ninety-sixpercentofparticipantshadvisitedanartmuseumwithinthelasttwoyears，and68percenthadvisitedanartmuseumfiveormoretimeswithinthelasttwoyears.Thirty-twopercentofalumniworkintheartsasadults.

Thoughthestudyisthefirstofitskindtoexploretheimpactofteen-specificartprogramsinmuseums，itreflectsotherresearchontheimportantbenefitsofengagingwiththearts.AdecadeofsurveysbytheNationalEndowmentfortheArtsfoundthatthechildhoodexperiencewiththeartsissignificantlyassociatedwithpeoplesincomeandeducationalatta
