ForewordThesetableswerepreparedtoprovideaconvenientmeansofobtainingtheviscosityindexofpetroleumproductsandlubricantswithouttheneces-sityofcalculation.TheyhavebeenpreparedunderthesponsorshipofResearchandDevelopmentDivisionVIIonFlowPropertiesofASTMCommitteeD-2.ThispublicationisintendedtoreplacethepreviousViscosityIndexTables:DS39a.Thosewerebasedon100and210°Fasreferencetemperatures.ThesenewtablesarebasedonASTMMethodD2270-74forCalculatingViscosityIndexfromKinematicViscosityat40and100°C.MethodD2270-74waspreparedincompliancewithworldwideagreementsreachedwithintheInternationalStandardsOrganizationtoadopt40and100°Celsiusastheprimaryreferencetemperaturesfortheviscositydeter-minationsofpetroleumlubricantsandrelatedproducts.ResearchandDevelopmentDivisionVIIofASTMCommitteeD-2wasrequestedbyTechnicalCommittee28oftheInternationalStandardsOrganizationtoprepareanewstandardforcalculatingviscosityindex.Thiswastobebasedonkinematicviscositiesdeterminedat40and100°C,andtobeinagreementwiththepriorMethodD2270-64using100and210°F.ItwasalsorequestedthatnewViscosityIndexTablesbepreparedwhichwouldobviatethenecessityfordetailedcalculations.Thispublicationful-fillsthatrequest.Duringtheinterimperiodinwhichtheuseof100and210°Fasreferencetemperatures
