WeattheICT4PeaceFoundationhavebeenworkingonInformationCommunication

Technologies(ICTs)andpeaceandsecurityissuesforthepast14years.Muchhaschangedin

termsofthepotentialforinternationalcoordination,thespeedofinformation,theriseofsocial

mediaandtheadvancementsmadebyAI.Overthepast18monthsICT4Peacehasfocussed

particularlyontheimpactofArtificialIntelligenceandCybersecurityonsocietyandindividuals

andresultingpeace-timethreats.Howcanwesecureindividuals’rights,dataandprivacy

online,usingtraditionalnationalsecurityapproacheswhenthechallengeswefaceare

inherentlybothlocalcitizen-based,andinternational?Onewayforwardcouldbetodevelop

policiesthatconsidertheindividualastheepicenterofthesecuritychallengeinsteadofonly

traditionalterritorialsovereignty.HumanbeingsneedtobethecorefocusoftheITand

securityagendagoingforward.

TheICT4PeacefoundationincooperationwiththeZurichHubforEthicsandTechnology(ZHET)

heldaseriesofinformalworkshops1in2018withleadingthinkersontheimpactofAI.Asthe

eventsofthepastmonthshavesignalled,itisclearweareataturningpointabouthowwe

wanttomanageandshapethefutureofthe“DataAge”.
