Abstract:Recentexperimentsonthree-dimensionalicosahedraldielectric

photonicquasicrystalshaveshownseveralunexpectedfeatures:transmitted

femtosecondpulsesdevelopedatrailing“diffusive”exponentialtailandthe

sumof(zeroth-order)transmittanceandreflectancewaswellbelowunity.

Theseexperimentalfindingshavepreviouslybeenascribedtosample

imperfections.Here,weanalyzethesefindingsbyusing3Dperiodic

approximantsoftheidealphotonicquasicrystals.Weshowthatthe

experimentalobservationscanbeexplainedintermsofmultiplescattering

oflightwithinthesestructures,i.e.,intermsofintrinsicratherthanpurely

extrinsicquasicrystalproperties.
