Inthispaper,weconsiderthesingle-machineschedulingproblemswith

nonlineardeterioration.Bythenonlineardeteriorationeffect,wemeanthatthepro-

cessingtimesofjobsarenonlinearfunctionsoftheirstartingtimes.Weshowthat

evenwiththeintroductionofnonlineardeteriorationtojobprocessingtimes,single

machinemakespanminimizationproblemremainspolynomiallysolvable.Wealso

showthatanoptimalscheduleofthetotalcompletiontimeminimizationproblemis

V-shapedwithrespecttojobnormalprocessingtimes.Aheuristicalgorithmutiliz-

ingtheV-shapedpropertyisproposed,andcomputationalexperimentsshowthatit

performseffectivelyandefﬁcientlyinobtainingnear-optimalsolutions.
