Thereareover600differentVoluntaryStudentOrganizations(VSOs)atStanford.VSOsarethoseorganizationsinwhichmembershipisbothopenandlimitedtocurrentStanfordstudents,andwhosepurposesandproceduresareconsistentwiththegoalsandstandardsoftheUniversity.Studentsmakeallorganizationaldecisions.InordertousetheStanfordname,ortoreceivefunding,allvoluntarystudentorganizationsmustregisterwiththeUniversitythroughtheOfficeofStanfordEvents.

Asaconditionofregistration,eachvoluntarystudentorganizationmustfileandhaveapprovedeachofthefollowing：

·Astatement(声明)ofpurposeandorganizationalconstitution.

·Astatementaboutmembershipqualifications.

·Clearproceduresforofficerelections.

·Identificationoftheauthorizedrepresentativesofthegroup.

IfavoluntarystudentorganizationseekstouseUniversityfacilitiesformeetingsopentomorethanitsownmembers,suchmeetingsshallbesubjecttotheregulationsoftheCommitteeonPublicEvents.AllorganizationeventsheldinUniversityfacilitiesmustreceiveeventapprovalfromtheOfficeofStudentActivities.NostudentgroupmayuseUniversityspaceorfacilitiesorreceiveotherUniversitysupportforpurposesofsupportingcandidatesforpublicoffice.GroupsmayusepublicplacessuchasWhitePlazaforspeechesandsimilaractivitiesheldbytheStudentCommittee;mayhaveperiodicuseofon-campusmeetingrooms;andmayrequesttoreserveauditoriums(礼堂)forpubliceventsaslongasallUniversityguidelinesarefollowed.
