    Thecryogenicthermalswitch(CTSW),whichisoneofthekeyforthermalinte-

    gration,isusedtocoupleredundantcryocoolerstocryogenicdevicesinordertominimizethe

    parasiticheatloadfromtheoff-cryocoolers.Baseduponcomparingtheperformanceofmanytypes

    ofCTSWsforaerospaceapplication,apassivelyoperatedCTSWdevisedbyTechnicalInstituteof

    PhysicsandChemistry(TIPC)ispresentedinthispaper.

    TheCTSW,whichworksontheprincipleofdifferentialthermalexpansion,hasonlythree

    partsandweighsabout50g.Theexperimentalresults,obtainedfromtesting,showsthattheCTSW

    hasan“on”ofabout4.35~5.00K/W,andan“off”ofabout1400K/W.In

    addition,anautomatictestbenchforlongdurationlifetimetestinghasbeendesignedandsetup.

    INTRODUCTION

    Withthedevelopmentofinfraredsurveillancetechnology,cryogenicsystemsonfuturespace-

    craftwillrequireavarietyofadvancedintegrationcomponentstomeettheirperformancegoals,

    suchaslong-life,high-reliability,andhigh-efficiency.Therearetwokeystepstoachievehigh

    reliability,oneistouseahighperformancecryocooler,andtheotheristoincorporatearedundant

    cryocoolertoprotectindividualcryocoolerfailure.Despitetheimpressivelifetimescryo-

    coolershaveachieved,theuseofoneormorecryocoolersforstandbyislikelytobecomethenorm

    onfuturespacemissions.1Theparasiticheatleakfromtheredundant,no
