ISO12268:1997ENAerospace—Nuts,hexagonal,plain,reducedheight,reducedacrossflats,withMJthreadsisastandardthatspecifiesthedesignanddimensionsofhexagonalnutswithMJthreadsusedinaerospaceapplications.Accordingtothisstandard,therearefiveclassesofnuts,namely450MPa(atambienttemperature)/425degreesC,600MPa(atambienttemperature)/235degreesC,600MPa(atambienttemperature)/315degreesC,600MPa(atambienttemperature)/650degreesC,900MPa(atambienttemperature)/235degreesC,900MPa(atambienttemperature)/730degreesCand1100MPa(atambienttemperature)/600degreesC.Theseclassesarebasedonthemaximumallowablestress(MPa)ofthenutsatvariousoperatingtemperatures.Thedimensionsofeachclassarealsospecified,andincludetheoutsidediameter,insidediameter,height,andflangedimensionsofthenuts.Thesedimensionsarecrucialfortheproperassemblyandfunctioningoftheaircraftcomponentsthatusethesenuts.Therefore,compliancewiththesedimensionsiscrucialtoensuresafetyandreliabilityoftheaerospacecomponents.
