ⅠⅡⅢⅣMaryamoriginallywantedtobeawriter,apassionofhersthatneverfadedawayevenduringherpostgraduatestudies.However,shefoundanevengreaterjoyinhowrewardingitfelttosolvemathematicalproblems.Asastudent,shewasthefirstfemalememberofIran’snationalteamtoparticipateintheInternationalMathematicalOlympiad(IMO),andshewontwogoldmedalsintwoyears,whichisstillarecord.

ⅠⅡⅢⅣShereceivedherbachelor’sdegreeinIranandlaterstudiedatHarvard.In2014,MaryamwasrecognizedwiththeFieldsMedal,thehighest-rankingawardinmathematics.Herworkfocusedoncurvedsurfaceslikesphere(球体).Herachievementshaveapplicationsinotherscientificfieldsincludingengineeringandmaterialscience.Unfortunately,atthattimeshewasalreadyfightingagainstthebreastcancer.Maryam’slegend(传奇)maycontinuetogrowafterherearlydeath.Stillonly20percentoffull-timemathteachersatU.S.universitiesarewomen.Theexampleofawomanwhorosetothetopofthisstillverymalefieldmayhelpinspiremath’snextgeneration.
