trackexpirationdates.
Serialnumberscanhelpyoutrackitemsdowntothelevelofeachindividualobjectinyourwarehouse,
soyouknowexactlywhichonewassoldtoacustomer.
Serialnumbersarealsoveryusefulasawaytotrackservicehistoryforacustomer’spurchase.

Shouldtheitembetrackedforsecurityorrepairreasons?
Iftheanswertobothquestionsisyes,thentheitemisagoodcandidateforserialnumbers.
Incontrast,batchesareusedtotrackaquantityofanitemwithcharacteristicsincommon.These
characteristicsmightbeattributesyoudefinesuchasashadeofcolor,granularityorPHbalance.The
characteristicscouldbedates,suchapirationdates,manufacturingdate,orthedatetheitemswere
receivedintoinventory.
