BritishreligioushistoryhasbeenpredominantlyChristian.IthasbeencharacterisedbyconflictsbetweenRomanCatholicsandProtestantsandbydivisionintoseparateProtestantchurchesandsects.ReligiousHistory

Inthe1stcenturyBC,ChristanitywasfirstintroducedintoBritainbyRomans.Inthe16thcentury,HenryVIIIimplementedtheReformationandrejectedthesupremacyofthepopeoftheRomanCatholicChurchinRome.Duringthe16thand17thcentury,manyProtestantsfeltthatthechurchhadnotdistanceditselfsufficientlyfromRomeandformedNonconformistorDissentingchurches,calledFreeChurchestoday.Inthe18thand19thcenturies,moreNonconformistsectswereformed,suchastheMethodists,theEvangelicals,andtheBaptists.
