    Abstract

    Planninghigh-speedtrajectoriesforUAVsinunknownenvironmentsrequiresalgorithmictechniquesthatenablefast

    reactiontimestoguaranteesafetyasmoreinformationabouttheenvironmentbecomesavailable.Thestandard

    approachtoensuresafetyistoenforcea“stop”conditioninthefree-knownspace.However,thiscanseverelylimit

    thespeedofthevehicle,especiallyinsituationswheremuchoftheworldisunknown.Moreover,thead-hoctimeand

    intervalallocationschemeusuallyimposedonthetrajectoryalsoleadstoconservativeandslowertrajectories.This

    workproposesFASTER(FastandSafeTrajectoryPlanner)toensuresafetywithoutsacrificingspeed.FASTERobtains

    0high-speedtrajectoriesbyenablingthelocalplannertooptimizeinboththefree-knownandunknownspaces.Safety

    2guaranteesareensuredbyalwayshavingafeasible,safeback-uptrajectoryinthefree-knownspaceatthestartofeach

    0replanningstep.TheMixedIntegerQuadraticProgramformulationproposedallowsthesolvertochoosethetrajectory

    2intervalallocation,andthetimeallocationisfoundbyalinesearchalgorithminitializedwithaheuristiccomputedfrom

    nthepreviousreplanningiteration.Thisproposedalgorithmistestedextensivelybothinsimulationandinrealhardware,
