Anewstudy,aprojectoftheresearchersfromtheUniversityofPittsburghinPennsylvania,findsthat
afitnesstracker(健康追踪器)probablydoesnothelpwithweightloss.
Thetrackersaredesignedtorecordyourphysicalactivity.Theyareusuallywornaroundthewrist(手
腕),wheretheyrecordapersonsheartrate.Theresearchteamlookedattwogroupsofpeople.Thefirst
woreafitnesstrackerandtookpartinhealthconsultationwithexpertsforbestweight-lossplan.The
researcherscomparedthisgroupwithpeoplewhoonlygothealthconsultation.
Thestudyfoundthatthoseonlyspeakingwiththehealthexpertslostnearly6kilograms,butthose
usingafitnesstrackerlostonly3.5kilograms.JohnJakicic,theleadresearcher,questionedtheuseof
thesetrackersforweightloss.
Thestudyinvolved470peopleagedbetween18and35.Someofthemwereoverweight,whileothers
wereconsideredobese.Overthreefourthsofthemwerewomen.Allweretoldtoincreasephysical
activityandstartonalow-caloriediet.Theyhadtheirweightmeasuredonceeverysixmonths.Aftersix
months,researchersdividedthegroupintotwoparts:onecontinuedwithmonthlyconsulting,while
membersoftheothergroupweregivenafitnesstracker.Eighteenmonthslater,bothgroupsshowed
greatimprovementsinfitness,physicalactivityanddiet,withnobigdifferencebetweengroups.
However,whenitcametolosingweight,thepeoplewhoonlyspokewithexpertslostnearlytwiceas
muchweight.
Jakicicsaid,Thestudysfindingsareimportantbecauseeffectivelong-termtreatmentsareneededto
dealwithAmericasobesity.Moreinformationisneeded,headded,tolearnhowtobestusethese
trackerstohelpadultswhowanttoloseweight.
