stationwagon,pickup,vanandoff-roadsportcars.

Thebeststyleforyoudependson

theusetowhichyou’llputthecar,

whereyoulive,theamountofdriving

youdo,yourfinancialresources,and

yourpersonaltastes.Themostcommon

familyautomobilesaredividedinto

manystylesandareavailableinfour

basicsizes:subcompact,compact,

intermediate,andfull-size.

Subcompacts

Carsofthissizeoftenhavethelowestoriginalcostanddeliverthebest

fueleconomy.Subcompactsgenerallyprovidethebesthandlingandeasiest

maneuveringandparking.However,duetotheirshorterwheelbase(distance

fromcenteroffrontwheeltocenterofrearwheel)andtheirlighterweight,

subcompactsgiveasomewhatfirmerride,whichsomepeopleprefer.

Subcompactshavethree,fourorfivedoorsandaredesignedtoseatfour

passengerscomfortably.Currentsubcompacthatchbacksarenomorethan

4000mmlong.Inaddition,manypeoplefindthemselvescrowdedinsidea

subcompact,especiallysometimesintheminusculebackseats.

Despitetheirimpressivegasmileagefigures,however,subcompactoverall

maintenancecostcansometimesrunhigherthantheirlargercounterparts.

Thisisduepartlytotheoftencrampedquartersinwhichenginepartsare
