Unit 13 Friendship Preview Friendship is a unique relationship. In contrast to most other relationships, friendship is voluntary. There are legal and religious ceremonies for marriage, and social and legal rules for governing marital relationships. We have no parallel ceremonies to recognize friendships and no formal standards to guide interaction among friends.
