Phonetics: the study and classification of speech sounds语音学 Phonemic symbols are a set of standard signs used to represent the phonemes of a language , such as /i /,/u/ A phonemic script is a set of phonemic symbols which show in writing how words are pronounced, e.g. beautiful is written /bju:tifl/; Dictionaries use phonetic script to show the pronunciation of words. pronunciation: Way of making the sound of a word or part of a word , typically in the correct or a particular way （尤指准确）发（词、音节的）音 Intelligibility: able to be understood; comprehensible phonology: is the study of the sound features used in a language to communicate meaning. In English these features include phonemes, word stress, sentence stress and intonation. A phoneme is the smallist unit of a sound that has meaning in a language. E.g., the s in books Intonation is an important part of pronunciation. It is the movement of the level of the voice, i.e. the tune of a sentence or a group of words. We use the intonation to express emotions and attitudes, or emphasize or make less important particular things we are saying, and signal to others in the function of what we are saying, e.
