Paddle Shifter Offering the manual shift device to the driver in the steering wheel, more dynamic driving can be achieved, this device is referred to as ‘paddle shifter’ that the switch shape is similar to the paddle in the ship. Note that the gear can be changed manually just by pressing the paddle shifter without moving the shift lever to sports mode position so that it offers more convenient driving to the driver. Temporary range shift to sports mode When the vehicle speed is higher than 10kph, the current range will be shifted to sports mode upon pressing the paddle shifter (even if the shift lever is in D range). And then accordingly, the gear will be up-shifted or down-shifted depending on the paddle shifter signal input (+ or -). Note that the sports mode will be maintained (even if the shift lever is in D range) as long as the accelerator is not depressed or the vehicle speed does not drop lower than 10kph. The reason to keep the sports mode is that mostly this situation may occur while the engine braking with power off condition. Restore to D range After 2sec from the last paddle shifter signal input, TCM will start to monitor the APS value change. If the accelerator is depressed (higher APS value than threshold, 5%) for more than 3sec, the range will be restored to D range. In addition, if following conditions are met, the range will be restored to D range. - Engine off and restart the engine or - Manual lever position: D ? P/R/N or D ? S ? D - Vehicle speed drops to 10kph or less. Duplicated input signal processing - When the duplicated signals input from the paddle shifter, the first come signal will be accepted by TCM. - If the manual shift inputs by lever while operation of paddle shifter, the lever shift input signal will be neglected. As for the shift pattern, the manual shift pattern is exactly same for the paddle shifter and shift lever.
