The Italian made an strong political statement with which he knew the American would disagree. The Italian wanted to involve the American in a lively discussion. But the American responded,“ Well, everyone is entitled to an opinion. I accept you opinion is different than mine.”…This made the Italian very angry. Why? Because the American did not enjoy verbal conflicts over politics or anything else. While the Italian usually want the conversational partners to get involved in any discussions. The Example Shows: This example shows how hard does culture influence communications and it represents two different communication styles. The High Involvement The features: talk more interrupt more expect to be interrupted talk more loudly at times talk more quickly The cultures that characterizes as having this style include: Russian, Italian, Greek, Spanish, South American and African The High Considerateness The features: speak one at a time use polite sounds Refrain from interrupting Give plenty of positive and respectful response to their conversation partners. The cultures that characterizes as having this style include: The various countries in Asian cultures( e.g., Chinese and Japanese) --Example New Yorkers tend to talk faster and respond more quickly(“ high involvement”) than Californians(“ high considerateness”). To some Californians, New Yorkers seem pushy爱出风头的 and domineering盛气凌人的. To some New Yorkers, the Californians seem slower, less intelligent, and not as responsive. ★Communication Styles Reflect Cultures The different way people speak would cause the others’ judgments easily. So these judgments could reflect different cultures. For example: “The way she speak is different from mine, she is loud, pushy and domin
