Summary We develop a stochastic model of airport EDS screening system including passengers arrival, baggage screening, etc. Monte Carlo method was used to determine the required number of EDS using the data of peak hour flight departures. We elaborately estimate the mixture arrival of different flights’ passengers and develop two scheduling algorithms based on greedy algorithm. The efficiency and expansibility of our algorithms are confirmed by our later simulation. Based on our model, several advisable recommendations are made for airports and other correspondence. We modify our EDS model to incorporate the use of ETDs and determine the number of ETDs needed for Airport A B. Take account of the expenses of new device adaptation and the loss due to the explosive materials, we develop a value judgment to determine whether the cost of ETDs is justified in light of the value it provides and how to improve the system of EDSs if so. However, to realize credible securities, no matter EDSs or ETDs are far from perfect; research progress in this field is desired.
