The results showed that the spatial pattern of var- ious land use types had certain spatial distribution characteristics because of the influences of height and slope gradient . The cultivated land mainly dis- tributed i n the range with the slope gradient of less than 25°. The unused land mainly distributed in the areas with high height and long distance fromhu- man activity range . The diversity of land use types decreased with the i ncreasing of elevation and slope gradient . There was less cultivated land i n the re- search area with the slope gradient of more than 25°, which indicated that the power of returningthe cultivated land to forest and grass i nthis county shoul d be strengthened .
