During the process, he accumulated knowledge little by little and finally made great achievements. This paper is divided into four parts: Chapter one: Xiao Mu’s life. Nurtured by the dense cultural atmosphere in Tong Cheng and instructed by his teachers and scholars, he collected, revised and published books, taking studying philology as his life-long career. Chapter two: A general review of Xiao Mu’s collation work. Xiao Mu revised and published several anthologies such as “Liu Chao Wen Jie ” as well as other regional documents. He also collected and revised some books forbidden by Qing dynasty such as “Cang Shan Ge Ji” and so on. In addition, he collected and published many famous scholars’ masterpieces. Xiao Mu made great contributions to the collation and preservation of ancient documents. Chapter three: A brief introduction of Xiao Mu’s achievements in collation. He depended on editions but did not believe them blindly; he did not tamper them nor let the errors uncorrected; he gave great attention to the fruits of revise and publishing in other countries and alleged that punctuations should be added when collating.
