Abs tract: The d irect d isp lacem ent-based seism ic design is an effective w ay to fu lfill the princip le of performance-
based seism ic design. It mainly consists of the follow ing three aspects: procedures of direct displacement-based
seism ic design, methods of d isplacement demand estmi ation and the determ ination of target d isplacement. In th is
paper, these three aspects are review ed based on the research achievements home and abroad, and the prospect of
the future trends is also presented.
