[Method] 24 SD rats were divided randomly into 8 groups: normal control group, model group treated with hydrogen peroxide and the tetramethylpyrazine groups treated with hydrogen peroxide combined with different concentration tetramethylpyrazines (0.125mg/ml, 0.25mg/ml, 0.5mg/ml, 1mg/ml, 2mg/ml and 4mg/ml).The usage of concentration of hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) was 800μmol/L. The transparent lenses without any injury were taken from SD rat and were cultured under the different conditions for 24 h in vitro. After the lenses were observed by naked eyes, the clear supernatants were gotten from lenses homogenate. The activation levels of superoxide dismutase(SOD) and the content of malon aldehyde(MDA) were measured by photometry method respectively. [Result] The activation levels of SOD test showed that 0.5 mg/mg，1.0 mg/mg and 2.0 mg/mg TMP could increase the activation levels of SOD obviously compared with the model group, P＜0.05 or P＜0.01. The content of MDA test that all concentrations of TMP could obviously decrease the content of MDA compared with model group, P＜0.01.Conclusion] Tetramethylpyrazine might protect lens of rats from oxidative damage, in which could relate with the increasing SOD activation and decreasing the MDA content.
