4/22/2004 8.1 New Features July 30, 1999 DesignModeler - Beam Modeling ANSYS 8.1 Workshop 1 Purpose Build a beam and surface model in DesignModeler then define and orient the beam cross sections. The structure is a 15mm thick steel drum reinforced with six stiffeners fabricated from T sections. Goal Create the drum structure shown at right by first creating the surface body then adding six line bodies and assigning beam cross sections. Once assigned the cross sections must be aligned in the radial pattern shown at right. Finally the DM bodies will be grouped as a multi-body part suitable for beam and shell modeling in Simulation. Model Description Drum is 1.2 m diameter and 1.5 m long. Beam T-sections are 80x80mm and 5 mm thick. Beam ‘T’ cross sections must be aligned as shown.
