Why don’t low carbon steels repond to quenching? Abstract: not because of low carbon steel quenching can not be fully of martensite, cannot achieve good improve the hardness of the steel and wear resistance. So in actual production, not widely application. Key words: low-carbon steel, quenching, Martensite, hardness, wear resistance Low carbon steel is quality score less than 0.3% of the steel grades, belongs to the hypoeutectoid steel. hypoeutectoid steel, suitable for the heating temperature is above 30 to 50 ℃ Ac3, after quenching can obtain martensitic organization of tiny evenly .But because of carbon content is insufficient, so after quenching, the organization will appear ferrite, cause hardness is insufficient, the decrease of strength. The steel quenching is heated to a definite temperature, heat preservation appropriate time to obtain corresponding high temperature phase, and then rapidly cooling, to get away from the equilibrium in the unstable heat treatment process of the organization. Low carbon steel quenching can form duplex steel. In recent years, with low-alloy steel development, obviously improving the strength of the component.
