Use suitable hand trucks or racks for moving cylinders. Properly capped, cylinders may be moved for short distances by rolling them on their base. Care must be taken to prevent the cylinder from rolling or sliding out of control. Avoid rough handling. Rolling should not be attempted by untrained, inexperienced personnel. Do not slide or drag cylinders. Do not bump cylinders. Do not allow cylinders to drop or tip over. Do not use cylinders as rollers. Unless in use, cylinder valves should be kept closed at all times. Never attempt to lift a cylinder by its valve protection cap. Never use slings or electro-magnets for lifting or transporting cylinders. Use a cradle or suitable platform when transporting cylinders by crane or derrick. Never tamper with safety-relief devices on gas cylinders. They are provided to prevent excessive pressure within the cylinder if the cylinders are exposed to fire or excessive temperatures. Never transfer any gas from one cylinder to another or attempt to mix any gas in a cylinder. This practice might result in a cylinder rupture or explosion. Store cylinders of combustible gases in a separate, dry, well-ventilated area. Do not let full or empty cylinders stand around and clutter up work areas. They may interfere with operations, be subject to arc burn damage and, if not properly secured, they may fall over and damage equipment or injure someone. Cylinders not in use should be secured on a cylinder cart or returned to secure storage. Never try to stop a falling cylinder. If a cylinder starts to fall. step out of the way, warn others and let it fall. Gas cylinders are typically tall and heavy. Many injuries have resulted from unsuccessfu
