The Language of the Method Section 4.7. Summary 4.1. Introduction The Method section shows the reader how the research was carried out. It is the purpose of the Method section to provide exactly such information. The general tendency is to divide it into a number of sub-section. These can be (1) Materials, (2) Design, (3) Analysis and (4) Procedure. 4.2 Materials In any research activity, data collection is a necessary requirement. Depending on the method of investigation, the data may come from published materials, oral interviews, questionnaires, recorded speech test results, etc. This can be seen clearly in the following examples. Examples: 1. We designed the T2K-SWAL Corpus to be relatively large (2.7 million words) and to represent the academic registers that U.S. university students must listen to or read (see Table 3). ( TESOL, 2002:19) Examples: 2. Forty written compositions, the last part of a provincial examination, were collected from one French language school in the greater Montreal, Quebec, Canada area. (TESOL, 2002: 54) Examples: 3. The examples of English texts (source )( Sample 1) and their translations into Chinese (target) (Sample 2) come from a textbook used for teaching translation to university students in China.
