Broadly, it includes handicrafts, folk music, folk dancing, and drama, etc. In narrow sense, it refers to folk hand-made artistic forms, including folk fine arts and different forms of arts and crafts. The various handicrafts are made of different materials such as paper, cloth, bamboo, wood, stone, leather, metal, flour, mud, withe, etc.. There are different categories according to the way of producing it—painting, sculpturing, knitting, carving, printing and dyeing, etc. The major kinds of folk handicrafts can be classified as followed: 尚辅网 Section A 1. Embroidery Embroidery is a kind of fascinating cloth art that involves the use of needles and thread.　Chinese embroidery has four major traditional styles: Su, Shu, Xiang, and Yue. Su is the short name for Suzhou. The Su embroidery has the same characteristic as Suzhou: tranquility, refinement, and elegance. Embroidery with fish on one side and kitty on the other side is a representative of this style. Shu embroidery originates from Shu—Sichuan. Shu Embroidery, influenced by its geographic environment and local customs, is characterized by a refined and brisk style. Xiang Embroidery, an art from Hunan, was a witness of the ancient Xiang (Hunan) and Chu (Hubei) culture. Xiang Embroidery absorbed elements from calligraphy and painting. Yue Embroidery, which encompasses Guangzhou Embroidery and Chaozhou Embroidery, has the same origin as Brocade of Li. Flowers and birds are the most popular themes of Yue Embroidery. In addition, Yue Embroidery uses rich colors to create a strong contrast and a magnificent and prosperous effect. 尚
