Many legends circulate around the festival but the most popular is the legend of Qu Yuan. Qu Yuan was a loyal minister of the King of Chu in the third century BC. Qu Yuan’s wisdom and intellectual ways antagonized other court officials, thus they accused him of false charges of conspiracy and he was exiled by the king.
