Survey group of Geoinf ormation centre of Lunan Geological Engineering Investigation Institute, Yanzhou 272100, China) Abstract: In order to convert the coordinates of several areas of one city into an uniformed coordinate system, it found that when Gauss conformal projection of 3zone , Gauss conformal projection of 3zone with compensation plane or gauss conformal projection of arbitrary zone were adopted, all length deformation exceed 25cmkm. Therefore, the only choice is to use the one of arbitrary zone with compensation plane, which can better control the length deformation. As a result, the length deformation of whole field is smaller than 25cmkm. For this case, this paper contrasts and analyzes the four deformations of Gauss conformal projection.
