To master the new words: rainstorm, suddenly, alarm, go off, pick up, strange 2. To master the key phrases: at the time of, in the library, in my house, on the street, at the bus stop, go to work, walk home, wait for, be busy doing, so…that, go off, wake up, take a shower, pick up 3. To master the key sentences: What was the girl doing at the time of the rainstorm? She was doing her homework. What were you doing last night? I was in the kitchen helping my room. When you called, I was having a shower. So while you were sleeping, I called Jenny and she helped me. Learning key points and difficulties To master the new words, key phrases and key sentences. Be able to talk about past events. To know about the usage of the conjunctions “when” and “while” To know about the structure and the usage of the past progressive tense. Teaching aids: Tape recorder , computer or multimedia Teaching procedures Step 1 Greetings and lead in Greet the students as usual. Ask the students the following questions: What time is it now? What are you doing now? What were you doing at this time yesterday? What about at 4 yesterday afternoon? Step 2 Teaching aims Present the studying aims on the blackboard or on the screen. Let the students know what they will learn in this lesson. Step 3 Self-learning 1. Ask Ss to learn the new words and phrases on Pages34-35 by yourselves. 2.Invite 2 Ss to try to read the new words. 3. lead reading for twice 4. give Ss five mins to read and memorize the new words in groups. 5.
