S E M I N A R Room 119A ZEC Monday, October 13, 2003, 3:00 p.m. 3:50 p.m. LNA and Mixer Design in CMOS/BiCMOS Technology by Chunyu Xin Texas AM University AMSC LNA and Mixer Design in CMOS/BiCMOS Technology Abstract: LNA and Mixer are key components for wireless receivers. Due to the low cost, high yield and high level integration of CMOS process a lot of interests are put on design integrated LNA and mixers. BiCMOS process has superior advantage of providing both MOS and bipolar transistors, so designer can exploit the merits of both types of transistors at the same time. LNA interfaces directly with the antenna (usually there is a passive band pass filter between the antenna and the LNA, the function of the band pass filter is provide band selection). The LNA must be able to provide enough power amplification, introduce very small additional noise to the system. It also should be linear enough to tolerate high power interferes come from the air. These requirements usually trade off each other. It is usually hard or not economic to process the received signal directly at RF frequencies(several hundred MHz to several GHz), so the mixer is another important block in the receiver. It converts the signal from the high frequency to low frequency to make the signal processing easier and more effective. Because the mixer operates among three frequencies (RF, LO and IF) it must provide enough isolations between these frequencies, deliver enough conversion gain and keep reasonable dynamic range. In this seminar the considerations of design LNA and mixer in CMOS/BiCMOS are presented. A fully integrated RF front-end for chameleon receiver is also presented. Chunyu Xin was born in Tianjin, P.
