I nstitute of M ental H ealth, Beij ing M edical Univ ersit , Beij ing 100083 = Abstract Objective The purpose of this study was to i vestigate t he possible cha ges i the prevale ce of schizophre ia i seve areas i 1993, 11 years after the 1982 psychiatric epidemiological sur- vey a d to ide tify the possible factors that may i flue ce these cha ges. Methods The same as that used i the 1982 psychiatric epidemiological survey over 12 areas. Results The 1993 survey u covered a life- t ime prevale ce of 6. 55 j a d time-poi t prevale ce of 5. 31j for schizophre ia. Either the life-time rate or time-poi t rate w ere all of slightly higher tha t hat of 1982 ( P 0.05) . Additio ally, there w as a clear social drift process of schizophre ics to the egat ive social livi g co ditio s. Conclusion The slight higher but o statisticcs differe ce i the above compariso data is possibly due to either the sampli g error or the cases accumulated a d the exte ded life expect a cy of schizophre ics.
