Objective To investigate the correlation between strangulated intestinal obstruction and systemic inflammatory response syndrome (SI S) . Methods The clinical data of 42 patients with intestinal obstruction undergoing operation were analyzed retrospectively. Results The sensitivity of SI S in the diagnosis of strangulated intestinal obstruction was 81. 8%, and the specificity was 85% ( P 0.005) . The sensitivity of SI S in the diagnosis of intestinal necrosis was 95.2%, and the speci ficity was 76. 2% ( P 0. 005) . White blood cell counts was significantly higher in patients with 9 strangulated intestinal obstruction than in thosewith simple obstruction [( 12.3∀ 3.6) # 10 / Lvs ( 8. 5 9 ∀ 3.6) # 10 / L, P = 0.0242] .
