Objective To investigate the efficacy and related influence fact ors and side effects of different antiviral drugs. Methods Retrospective study w as performed, 1 489 pat ients who were diagnosed chronic hepat itis B in the follow ing hospitals ( Beijing Youan Hospital, the First H ospital, Beijing University, The No . 02 H ospital of the People Liberation Army and Beijing Ditan Hospital) and treated w ith ant iviral drugs from 1995 to 2002, w ere follow ed. Antiviral efficacy of the four drugs and related factors w ere compared. Results 1) Forty percent of the patients w ere treated w ith antiviral drugs, w hich w ere higher than other regions in China. 2) Of all t he four drugs, interferon and lamivudine had better efficacy than the other drugs. Lamivudine can suppress H BV DNA
