But curren tly there is still lack of quantitative evaluation m ethod for structural system. Taking aseism ic structures as exam ples, the safety margins of structures are d iscussed, and it pointed out that the structural safetym argin is m ade up of safety m argin that is beneath the structural elem ent level and the safety m argin of global structural system. Factors that m ay control the safety m argin of global structural system s are analyzed then. In order to give a better evaluation for the safety of whole structure, CollapseM argin Ratio ( CMR) is in troduce, wh ich is based on IncrementalDynam icAnalysis ( IDA) and is receiving more international focus recently. Frame exam ples are g iven to illustrate how to evaluate the structural collapse resistance underM ega-earthquake w ith CMR.
