R. Ch ina) Abstract: Objective To in estigate the effect of Shenshao capsu le on m yocard ium function and heart m ass in SD rats w ith atherosclerosis. M ethod S ixty rats w ere d i ided into model group, contrast group, treatm ent group and pos iti e con- trast group. M odel group w ere gi en h igh cholesterol food and contrast group w ere gi en norm al food. Treatm ent group were gi en h igh cholesterol food and Shenshao capsu le ( low, m iddle, high dose) . N itric ox ide ( NO ), endothelin ( ET) and plasm inogen acti ator inh ibitor 1 ( PA I-1) in m yocardium tissuew ere exam ined as w ell as the heartm ass and m ass index at 40 days later. R esults In m yocardium tissue of rats w ith atherosclerosis, NO le el decreased w ith an increase of ET and PA I-1 le el (P 0. 05). The ET, PA I-1, heart m ass and m ass index in treatm ent group were lower than that in model group. NO le el in m yocard ium w ere h igher in treatm ent group especially in m idd le dose group (P 0. 05). Conclusion Shenshao capsule can decrease the le el of ET, PA I-1, heartm ass and increase the NO le el in m yocard ium tissue of rats w ith atherosclerosis.
