Theme It is a play about love, British social hierarchy and language learning. It shows that people can be influenced by language. In the play, Eliza changed her fate by learning to speak standard English. Introduction of Pygmalion(1) Poor cockney flower girl Eliza is a cleverfair young lady. She walks all the streets to sell her flowers and she makes a living on it. One day, she was spotted by Professor Henry Higgins, who then took a bet with Colonel Pickering that he can transform the dirty Cockney flower girl into a fair, cultivated lady. Introduction of Pygmalion(2) Higgins succeed and a young aristocrat Freddy falls in love with Eliza. But when Higgins takes all the success to himself and forgets to acknowledge her efforts, Eliza angrily leaves him for Freddy. Suddenly Higgins realizes he has already fallen in love with her! Finally,Eliza come back to Higgins. Summary of scene 3 Having finished the training of Eliza, Cononel Pichering, Professor Higgins brought Eliza to the party held by the wife of an ambassador. At the party, everyone was astonished by the way of her utterance, and they even thought she was a princess.
