Subject 50 August 19, 2005 SUMMARY OF TOPICS The following topic is being recirculated: BONDING CURRENT TEST FOR CONCENTRIC AND ECCENTRIC KNOCKOUTS COMMENTS DUE: OCTOBER 3, 2005 BONDING CURRENT TEST FOR CONCENTRIC AND ECCENTRIC KNOCKOUTS BACKGROUND COMMENTS FOR RECIRCULATION DOCUMENT As a result of the original STP balloting of the proposal to evaluate bonding via concentric and eccentric knockouts, questions arose concerning two of the proposed requirements: a) The proposed 27.3.1 with regard to defining the enclosure constructions eligible for the optional bonding current test; and b) The proposed 50.8 with regard to the location of the marking and whether more than one marking would be required per enclosure. While responses have been provided to all of the comments individually in the Proposal Review work area, the following summarizes the concerns raised by several STP members along with UL’s response: 1) NEC Section 250.97 details requirements for “Bonding for Over 250 Volts” and the exception to this section permits the bonding paths to include concentric or eccentric knockouts of boxes and enclosures that are Listed for the purpose. Does this proposal address bonding above and below 250 volts? Yes. For UL 50 enclosures evaluation of concentric and eccentric knockouts for bonding conduits with conductors over 250V is optional. As such, a marking is necessary in order to distinguish UL 50 enclosures with knockouts that comply with the optional requirements. While concentric and eccentric knockouts are permitted to bond conduits with non-service conductors rated 250V or less without a specific evaluation or marking, UL 50 boxes with concentric or eccentric knockouts that are evaluated to the
